Sensitivity Labels act as tags that can be attached to different documents, emails, meetings, and other content to mark their importance or required access level.
With Sensitivity Labels, you have the ability to restrict access to content to specific User Groups by marking it as Confidential, Highly Confidential, etc.
In Teams Manager, their main purpose is to apply Labels to newly created Spaces, mainly Teams, which will also fall under these Access Restrictions.
Let's go through Sensitivity Label usage within Teams Manager to gain a broader understanding of this feature and how you can make the most of it.
π‘ Teams Manager handles Classifications and Sensitivity Labels the same exact way. If your tenant has both, TM will prioritize Sensitivity Labels and use them instead of Classifications.
π Prerequisites
Before you start utilizing Sensitivity Labels within Teams Manager, you'll need to fully set them up through Microsoft Purview.
Here's how you can do that:
βοΈ Making Sensitivity Labels Discoverable
In order to ensure that you can actually utilize your Labels via Teams Manager, you'll have to meet certain criteria while creating them.
1. Ensure that the Label Scope is set to UnifiedGroup; otherwise, Teams Manager will be unable to recognize the Label.
2. Make sure that the Groups & sites checkbox is enabled during the Scope step of the Label Creation Process.
3. You must also ensure that the Label that you're planning to use is Published. Keep in mind that this process might take up to 24 hours to fully complete.
π·οΈ Utilizing Sensitivity Labels in TM
Once all of the abovementioned steps have been completed, and sufficient time has passed since the Label's publication, it will show up under Settings > Expert mode > Classifications.
You can make a Sensitivity Label a part of your Policy, which will automatically apply it to Teams when a Request is made.
Alternatively, if the Enable sensitivity labels in request form toggle is on, users will be able to choose the desired Sensitivity Label themselves as part of the Request Submission Process.
π‘ Keep in mind that if Sensitivity Labels are specified in a Policy, users won't be able to select their own, even if the corresponding setting is enabled.
π Final Results
Once your Sensitivity Labels have been synced with Teams Manager, you'll be able to:
Select them when submitting Space Creation Requests (if the corresponding setting is enabled).
Attach them to a Policy so they're automatically assigned to new Spaces.
Automatically apply them to all Spaces that have a Template and are categorized as an O365 Group.
π‘ Keep in mind that if you want to utilize Sensitivity Labels more extensively (apply them to files, emails, etc.), you'll have to utilize standard Microsoft tools to do so.
