Resolving Web App Inaccessibility

When you open the web versions of Teams Manager or External User Manager, you might run into a warning screen from Microsoft, informing you that the web version of the app might not function well.

Let's explore what causes this issue and how to resolve it as quickly as possible.

If you encounter the This app may have issues in the web version of Teams message when using the Web versions of TM or EUM, your browser is blocking third-party cookies or cross-site tracking.

Teams Manager and External User Manager run as embedded apps inside Microsoft Teams, and your browser needs to allow cookies from the Microsoft domains for them to load. When those cookies are blocked, the browser cannot complete the sign-in handshake, and the app stops loading.

To resolve the issue, simply add the following Microsoft domains to your browser's allowed cookie list (or turn off cross-site tracking) and reopen the browser to see if the changes applied.

1. Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Cookies and data stored > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
    ​

  2. Turn on Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended).
    ​

  3. Under Allow, click Add and enter each of the Microsoft domains listed above.

2. Google Chrome

  1. Open Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.
    ​

  2. Under Sites that can always use cookies, click Add and select Including third-party cookies on this site.
    ​

  3. Add each of the Microsoft domains listed above.

3. Firefox

  1. Open Settings > Privacy & Security.
    ​

  2. Under Cookies and Site Data, click Manage Exceptions.
    ​

  3. Enter each of the Microsoft domains and click Allow.
    ​

  4. Click Save Changes.

4. Safari

  1. Open Preferences > Privacy.
    ​

  2. Clear the Prevent cross-site tracking checkbox.
    ​

  3. Close and reopen Safari, then open the app again.

📋 Resolving the Issue Across Your Org

If this issue is organization-wide and you're an Admin, you can apply the same allowlist for all users at once with a Group Policy Object (GPO) instead of changing each browser by hand.

In Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome, add the Microsoft domains above to the CookiesAllowedForUrls policy. In Firefox, add them to the Cookies > Allowed Sites policy.

💡 You need administrative rights to apply a GPO. Browser policy templates are available from each vendor's enterprise download page.
